Starting its production in 1967 BASF Antwerp has grown over the last decades into Belgium’s largest chemical production centre. Situated on the right bank of the Scheldt River the site accounts for over 50 production facilities, plus various technical workshops and laboratories. The activities are concentrated on the production of petrochemicals, mineral fertilisers, fibre intermediates, plastics and finishing products.
As a production centre, BASF Antwerp ranks in second place within the BASF Group. With direct access to the sea and the European hinterland, Antwerp is the Group’s premier maritime facility in Europe. Antwerp is also an example of a “Verbund” site (so called on account of the highly intergrated nature of production activities carries out there), the strategic model within the BASF Group. The largest of the three European BASF steamcrackers builds the core of this Verbund site which is directly linked to the ARG ethylene pipeline grid.
